Dev environment setup is even more frustrating with cloud. Go figure it on your own is a miss allocation of resources. Especially as non devs like data scientists enter the foray. Great post.
Reminds me of an earlier post I saw where a software engineering manager was asking, "how do I prevent my engineers from spending 80 percent of their time on ops (i.e. cloud)?". To me, it seems like a failure of the product (i.e. cloud) if your users have to spend most of their time configuring it (as opposed to using it).
It's a whole other topic, but an interesting one nonetheless.
